 Hello!

It's that time of year again when I reflect on all the books I've read this year. I managed to read a whopping 30 books. If you'd like to keep up with my reading, please feel free to follow my Goodreads. In 2021, I managed to read 16 books. I am really glad that I managed to surpass this and read more this year.

As the years go on, I consistently aim to read more. Why? I am a strong believer in that there is so much we can learn from books, and each book is a new opportunity to enrich our souls. So, naturally, for the year ahead I'd like to read more than I did this year.

Before we talk more about the books I'm looking forward to reading in 2023, let's talk about some of the ones I've read this year.

As always, I fit in my annual read of The Great Gatsby. A pleasant read every single time. My reading this year definitely expanded past this favourite which I'm really chuffed with.

Some of my favourite books this year:

  • The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling
  • Witch by Finbar Hawkins
  • Season of the Witch by Sarah Rees Brennan
  • Daughter of Chaos by Sarah Rees Brennan
  • Delilah Green Doesn't Care by Ashley Herring Blake
  • Purple Panties by Zane
I have been raving about quite a few of these books in various blog posts this year, and I'd highly recommend each and every one of them!

One of my resolutions this year was to buy more second-hand books. I think I could restrict myself to only a couple of new books purchased but I am determined to do better in 2023. I didn't quite whittle down my TBR pile, so some of the last year's will be seeping into my 2023 TBR list! I'm determined to finish The Morganville Series this year, I read the first six books and there are nine more to go.

For the year ahead I'd like to read more queer fiction, I read a few LGBTQ+ books in 2022 and quite frankly my brain (and heart) is eager for more queer romances!

I Read 30 Books in 2022

Saturday 31 December 2022

Happy new year!

The first post of 2022 is sharing a list of the books I plan to read this year, just to name a few off the top of my head. In case you missed my last post, I said I was setting myself the goal of one book a week. So, a grand total of 52 books for the year ahead. Due to side effects from the booster, I haven't been able to read a physical book this weekend but I did manage to listen to the audiobook of Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone and now I am listening to Chamber of Secrets.

I have purchased some of the books listed below already, they've been waiting patiently on my desk and it's been hard trying not to read them. Now we've entered 2022, I can't wait to meet all the new characters that live within the pages.

One of my 2022 goals is to make my reading more sustainable, so I will be trying to buy second-hand books as well as reading more kindle versions and audiobooks. So far, I have been loving purchasing books from World of Books, they sometimes have old books that are no longer in circulation! This website was a godsend during my degree, and last year I bought a few books from them I couldn't find anywhere else.  I am going to use this website more often, they've got books I haven't seen on shelves in years!

Here's a list of books I want to read in 2022:
  • Witch - Finbar Hawkins
  • The Ex Hex - Erin Sterling
  • Medusa - Jessie Burton
  • Girl crush - Florence Given (preordered)
  • The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes - Suzanne Collins
  • In At The Deep End - Kate Davies
  • A Witch In Time - Constance Sayers
  • Red White & Royal Blue - Casey McQuiston
  • It’s about bloody time period - Emma Barnett
  • Rough Around The Edges - Crystal Chard
  • Change of Heart - Clare Lydon
I am hoping to read more queer fiction, if you have any recommendations please comment below.

I am aiming to share weekly posts on the blog here, and hopefully, two of those will be book reviews! I am trying to write more creatively too, I am currently exploring self-publishing a collection of my poems. 2022 is looking promising. Once I am feeling up to reading again I will be starting with The Ex Hex from my reading list! What are you deciding to read this year?

Books I Want To Read in 2022

Monday 3 January 2022

Hello!
I can’t believe that we are on the final day of 2021! Today I celebrated with a booster jab, crepes and seeing the new Spider-man film. I will be spending my evening with a glass (more likely a bottle) of wine and a book.  This year has been one of a kind, sort of like a blur. For me, it started off shaky,  as the year has progressed things began to look up. I pursued my career in Copywriting and 6 months in I’m absolutely adoring every second of it. I’ll be continuing my role further into 2022 which I couldn’t be more grateful for. I’ve met some amazing people this year and despite my mental health not being the greatest I’m ending the year on a positive note!

At the beginning of the year, I decided not to set a reading goal. However, I have still been tracking the books I’ve read on Good Reads and as of today, I read a grand total of 16 books in 2021!  Most of those have been towards the end of the year but I am absolutely chuffed. I finally reread the Divergent series after years of wanting to, I explored new genres and met so many new characters! I’m ready to read even more in 2022.

As I managed 16 books this year I am aiming to try and read 1 book a week, so my end of year total should be 52 books. I also want to write and share 2 book reviews a month with you guys, most of the year I was able to post weekly so I am aiming for this in 2022 too!

Out of all 16 books that I’ve read over the last year, one, in particular, stood out to me. Next Exit Home by Dena Blake.

I read this book at the beginning of the year and absolutely adored it! I posted a review of the book which you can read here. It was this book that started my search for more queer fiction. Spoiler for my 2022 reading list: lots of queer fiction.

I’ve been purchasing new books so expect a blog post in the new year talking about all the books I aim to read in 2022-with no pressure of course. I have enough on the list to cover at least 2 months' worth of reading.  I have never been more excited to read in my entire life, I can't wait to share more book reviews and bookish blog posts with you guys in the year to come. Wishing you the best for the new year.
