Slytherin

At the end of January my recent tattoo has been finished, my Slytherin tattoo. You may remember the blog post at the beginning of January of the outline being done. I am very pleased with my tattoo, being a huge Slytherin it feeds into my addiction.

This blog post isn't just about my new tattoo but my Slytherin life. First I’ll show you the tattoo and then go into my Slytherin profile!

"There’s not a single witch or wizard who went bad who wasn’t in Slytherin.” I quote Hagrid but also my flatmate who is Gryffindor.

Slytherin traits: Cunning, ambitious, resourceful, shrewd, determine.

When taking the sorting test on Pottermore I got Slytherin. I’m proud of my house, granted there have been some bad wizards and witches but not all Slytherin are the next dark lord! In fact one of the most famous wizards in history was a Slytherin: Merlin!

The character profile I got with my house sitting was Bellatrix Lestrange. As a character I’m not a massive fan, she’s not the best of people. She’s cruel.  But it is what it is. When the films came out I sort of liked Bellatrix, still and Evil character but I’m a bit of a fan of the actress Helena Bonham Carter. She was casted perfectly to play this character.

I’ve always favoured Slytherin, maybe because of Draco Malloy... I’ve always liked the bad guy in any book series, like Eric from Divergent. I’m currently in the  process of decorating my Uni room Slytherin theme, it’s a work in progress.

My wand details:

Alder wood
Phoenix feather core
10” in length
Slightly Springy Flexibility

Alder Wood description (from Pottermore)
Alder is an unyielding wood,  yet I have discovered that it’s ideal owner is not stubborn or obstinate, but often helpful, considerate and most likeable. Whereas most wand woods seek similarity in the characters of those they will best serve, alder is unusual in that it seems to desire a nature that is, if not precisely opposite to its own, then certainly of a markedly different type. When an alder wand is happily placed, it becomes a magnificent, loyal helpmate. Of all wand types, alder is best suited to non-verbal spell work, whence comes its reputation for being suitable only for the most advanced witches and wizards.

Phoenix Core description (Pottermore)

This is the rarest core type. Phoenix feathers are capable of the greatest range of magic, though they may take longer than either unicorn or dragon cores to reveal this. They show the most initiative, sometimes acting of their own accord, a quality that many witches and wizards dislike. Phoenix feather wands are always the pickiest when it comes to potential owners, for the creature from which they are taken is one of the most independent and detached in the world. These wands are the hardest to tame and to personalise, and their allegiance is usually hard won.

10” length (Pottermore courtesy of Ollivander)

Most wands will be in the range of between nine and fourteen inches. While I have sold extremely short wands (eight inches and under) and very long wands (over fifteen inches), these are exceptionally rare. In the latter case, a physical peculiarity demanded the the excessive wand length. However, abnormally short wands usually selects those in whose character something is lacking, rather than because they are physically undersized (many small witches and wizards are chosen by longer wands).

Slightly Springy flexibility (Pottermore courtesy of Ollivander)

Wand flexibility or rigidity denotes the degree of adaptability and willingness to change possessed by the wand-and-owner pair- although, again, this factor ought not to be considered separately from the wand wood, core and length, nor of the owner’s life experience and style of magic, all of which will combine to make the wand in question unique.

I am in fact looking for someone who makes wands, I know it sounds crazy but I own Draco’s wand and I want to try and see if I can get my own wand made for me. It would be pretty cool, geeky but insane!

I took the Patronus test too on Pottermore! I got a Tortoiseshell Cat. I think it’s pretty cool! I don’t know much about it but it’s something I will research.

If you want to check your Harry Potter House, or your wand or Patronus! Just go to Pottermore.com

The information I’ve provided about Slytherin and the wand details is from Pottermore.com and the images that aren’t my own are from Pottermore.com with the exception of the picture of Helena Bonham Carter which is from Google!

Thank you for reading my geeking out over Harry Potter, if you would like more HP lead posts please let me know! I have so much to talk about and rants including Peeves, Dobby and Film Ginny vs Book Ginny!
